EXAMPLES & TUTORIALS
In this section you can find various Derive tutorials and workshops. Tutorials target specific topics, while workshops cover the creation of entire surfaces and are usually divided in several parts. The courses below assume that you are already familiar with Derive’s basic functionality (nodes, navigation, preview, etc.), so if you are not, you should start with the Beginner’s Guide >> first. This section will be continuously expanded in the future, so expect new tutorials and workshop every now and then.
Tutorial: Handling Specularity
Specularity is often a confusing topic in 3D-rendering. This tutorial will clarify some of the nuts and bolts of specularity and how to set it up correctly, when working with Derive, so that it produces the desired result.

Tutorial: Optimizing Outputs
Derive can export all maps required for PBR rendering, but most generic shaders are somewhat inefficient at handling them. This video will show you how to optimize outputs when using custom shaders, to reduce the amount of required maps for the render.

Workshop: Interior Tiles
Use this workshop as an example of how to create a photo-realistic interior tile surface.
Part I
In the first part of the workshop we will create the pattern for our tile surface, after clarifying, what we are trying to achieve.
Duration: 6:02
Part II
The second part of the workshop will focus on creating the colors for the tiles, as well as the gaps. The tiles get individual color schemes rather than uniform colors, to make them look more appealing.
Duration: 8:54
Part III
In the last part the colors and the pattern are being combined to create the albedo map. The pattern is then also used to create all other maps Finally we connect all maps to the master node and examine the final result in the live-preview.
