ABOUT
Starting out as an indie developer, Dogmatic first developed mobile games. When it became clear that the biggest challenge in game development is not as much designing the logic, as it is filling the virtual world with actual content, the focus has switched to the development of tools that make it easier to create content for individuals, indie studios and professionals alike.
Making a virtual world look the way we visualize it in front of our inner eye, is by far the most time consuming work, when we build 3D-applications. While we may feel challenged by the required logic, at some point we always realize that most of it will at some point be connected with visual elements – elements of which we have no idea where to get them from. How do we model hundreds or even thousands of 3D-objects, being a small team or an individual? How to texture them? Where to we get all the audio for our applications?
While Dogmatic can’t help with all of these problems, at least with some it can. That is how AQUAS came to be and quickly became the most popular water system for Unity3D. It was followed up by Skybox Studio a few years later, an Editor that allows the procedural design of static skyboxes, together with a collection of ready-made content available to all Unity users.
Now Dogmatic’s goal has become building a community of content creators who share an interest in designing surface textures for all usecases imaginable. Derive is the result of that effort and while it offers everything required for procedural texture creation at light speed on it’s own, it is closely interwoven with the community infrastructure that this website represents. This integration makes Derive more than just a piece of software.
By accessing knowledge directly from the editor and exchanging it online with others, by getting involved into the development process through various channels of communication and by sharing content with other users, Derive strives to make collaboration as easy as possible, allowing the community to learn from each other and the developer to learn from the community.
